In addition, a time-resolved MCA (multi channel analyzer) was installed for x-ray energy analysis. This micro-XRF system with the time-resolved MCA enables continuous x-ray analysis as a function of time at localized region on the sample. After the micro x-ray beam was fixed on the quinoa seed, x-ray fluorescence intensities of several elements emitted from the quinoa were monitored. Furthermore, elemental distributions in biological materials, such as wheat and rice grains were investigated by the micro-XRF method.

Comparative EPMA and μ-XRF methods for mapping micro-scale distribution of iodine in biocarbonates of the Callovian–Oxfordian clayey formation at Bure, Eastern part of the Paris Basin
A pluridisciplinary approach was used to define iodine immobilization mechanisms by biocarbonates in a natural marine carbonate-bearing clayey formation. For this purpose, different techniques of observation (optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM), cathodoluminescence (CL)) and of analyses (infrared spectrometry (IR), electron microprobe (EPMA), spatially resolved synchrotron-ba...
متن کاملDevelopment of 2D dispersive device for XRF imaging spectrometer
Micro-XRF analysis provides us with elemental maps, which are very useful for understanding the samples under test. Usually, scanning-type elemental mapping is performed. That means, a sample stage is scanned to a fixed X-ray micro beam. XRF analysis is performed at the scanned points, leading to 2D elemental mapping. One of the drawbacks of this technique is the long acquisition time depending...
متن کاملCarbon nanotubes allow capture of krypton, barium and lead for multichannel biological X-ray fluorescence imaging
The desire to study biology in situ has been aided by many imaging techniques. Among these, X-ray fluorescence (XRF) mapping permits observation of elemental distributions in a multichannel manner. However, XRF imaging is underused, in part, because of the difficulty in interpreting maps without an underlying cellular 'blueprint'; this could be supplied using contrast agents. Carbon nanotubes (...
متن کاملComparing the Detection of Iron-Based Pottery Pigment on a Carbon-Coated Sherd by SEM-EDS and by Micro-XRF-SEM
The same sherd was analyzed using a scanning electron microscope with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and a micro X-ray fluorescence tube attached to a scanning electron microscope (Micro-XRF-SEM) to compare the effectiveness of elemental detection of iron-based pigment. To enhance SEM-EDS mapping, the sherd was carbon coated. The carbon coating was not required to produce Micro-XRF-SE...
متن کاملForensic applications of X-ray fluorescence microscopy
The development of highly efficient X-ray optics has allowed the development of bench-top XRF systems which have high intensity X-ray beams with diameters ranging from 10 micrometres through to a few millimetres. Coupled with integrated high magnification optical cameras, these systems are ideally suited to the needs of the forensic scientist. A microscopic particle from a crime scene can be an...
